A Microsoft Office PowerPoint presentation can be exported as a Windows Media Video (*.wmv) file and easily included in a digital signage playlist. The most common advantage of maintaining a PowerPoint presentation instead of a digital signage playlist is that users less adaptable to new software platforms are able to utilize a software to design content that they are already familiar with.
PowerPoint presentations also can be exported as images.
The PowerPoint presentation must be a “self-running presentation” to be export as a video correctly. PowerPoint provides a Slide Show view to preview a “self-running presentation” exactly as it would look when presented to an audience and when exported as a video. A button to begin the Slide Show view is located in the taskbar at the bottom right corner of the PowerPoint window.
1. Open the “self-running presentation” in PowerPoint. Use the Slide Show view to preview the video file that will be produced from the presentation.
Note: The most critical setting to enable a presentation to run without human assistance is to disable the On Mouse Click checkbox in the Advance Slide area. Second, enable the After checkbox to assign a duration, or run length, to each slide.
2. Select File in the tool ribbon and Save As in the File menu.
3. In the Save As window, locate the Save as type field. Clicking on the drop down arrow reveals a list of file formats in which PowerPoint presentations can be exported. Select the Windows Media Video (*.wmv) format.
4. Navigate to the desired location to save the Windows Media Video (*.wmv) file.
Note: If an existing video file will be overwritten, simply navigate to and click on the existing video file.
5. Click Save. If the video file is being overwritten, a message window pops-up confirming the user wants to save over, or overwrite, the previous video file. Select Yes.
Exported Files & Overwriting
Overwriting allows users to maximize efficiency by replacing a piece of media in a playlist to retain the position in media sequence and media attributes applied to the media.
For Breeze Users:
When a video is uploaded with the same name as existing file in the server, the new video replaces, or OVERWRITES the previous video, in the Media tab in the Breeze Editor Content panel AND in any playlists the video is used in. Simply select the Group containing the video file and upload the new video. A message box verifies the user wants to overwrite the file:
Select Yes. After the file is finished uploading, go to the Players tool and select Update Player. The new video will replace the previous file with the same name in any playlist it is part of.
For MediaZone Pro Users:
MediaZone Pro users can navigate to the video file in the C:\Documents\MediaZone Editor Pro\Media directory (or network location) and save over the video file that is being used in the playlist in Step 4!
Then, open MediaZone Pro Editor and Send the playlist with the new video to the player. The new image will replace the previous file with the same video in any playlist it is part of.
