Within Breeze, “Metadata” is synonymous to tags or filters that are used to point to specific content, like images or widgets, for playlists. This allows users to ideally create one playlist that then will populate the desired content based upon the conditions, variables, and values set in place during Metadata setup. In Breeze, conditions are the specific filter, category, or item, such as: location, price, category, services offered, etc. Variables are the options within a condition, eg with a condition of “Delivery Features”, two variables could be Offers Delivery, and Does Not Offer Delivery. Values are the metadata tag entered that is connected to content to allow it to “know” when to be shown. Example: a “delivery” value entered for a specific piece of content would then allow metadata to know that the “offers delivery” media file in the file tree is to be included and shown.
Identify any and all conditions that apply to playlists and players. Examples can be: geographical location, pricing tiers, specific promo or sale opt-ins, and specific offerings or features, among many others. Now, determine how these will be effected: eg Geographical Location: West Coast, Midwest, etc Special Offerings: Offers Delivery, does not offer Delivery, etc.
This is also applicable to most widgets, such as text, weather, or twitter, for specific text, locations, or handles, and is changed within the widget itself using the [ ] next to the widget customization options in the dialog box, then those values are added to each player in which requires those values.
These are purely examples, and you can choose whatever values you most identify with for the purposes of your content, framework, and setup of your playlists and players.
To get started within Breeze, navigate to your server and create a new playlist or open an existing playlist. Navigate to the widgets tab, and find the Media Metadata Widget toward the bottom of the list. Click and drag the Media Metadata Widget to the desired zone you’d like the content to be visible. Now, add in all values for variables as previously determined during the out-of-breeze mapping in Step One, and click “save”.
Now is the time to upload additional media to the file tree (as needed- if all desired media is present in file tree, skip this step.) Then, create new file tree groups/folders based upon specific conditions (eg store pricing tier 1 and tier 2) and then drag and drop the media based upon variables into the groups that are applicable (eg: stores with tier 1 pricing would be put into the pricing tier 1 group). Repeat process until all media is sorted. Tip: If you would like specific media to be present on all players, then create an “all” value tag to later include on your players’ tagging.
Now, select a group, then navigate to the bottom of the file tree panel. Here, you will add the value tags for specific values (eg: Variable: Pricing Tier, type: text, Value: Tier 1) for each group, getting as detailed as needed to ensure the right media is pulled from your files to your playlist(s) and player(s). Repeat this step as many times as needed, for as many groups as needed. Finally, save the playlist. Note: If you have differing playlists, each will need to have the correct Metadata widget information, and be saved, in order for the Metadata process to function.
We will now navigate to the players page, where we will create new groups for our players based upon our variables (eg tier 1 pricing location players, tier 2 pricing location players). Now, select a player group, then navigate to the bottom of the player tree panel. Here, you will add the specific value tags (eg: Variable: Pricing Tier, type: text, Value: Tier 1) for each player group, getting as detailed as needed to ensure the right media is pulled from your files to your player(s). Repeat this step as many times as needed, for as many groups as needed, being sure to click “update player” button for each player, each time you are happy with the changes you have made, and ready to move on to the next grouping.
Observe that your changes have been pushed through to your players either on the physical display or the player screenshot.
Now that you have metadata set up, the maintenance process is fairly simple. When you are ready to change the media or information shown, you will do so by simply adding the correct content and values to your server, saving the playlist, then reordering the players/player groups and updating as needed to provide expected results.
