Vimeo on the Breeze Player
Many Vimeo videos can be included in Breeze player content. Vimeo provides an option to embed videos on a website and it is this feature that makes it possible to play back Vimeo videos with the Breeze Webpage widget.
Vimeo Player URL Parameters
The embed code can be accessed with the Embed Code button in the Vimeo Video Manager or the Share button on a public Vimeo page.
Only a portion of the embed code is used:
Several additional parameters are needed for most URLs so the video playback correctly on the Breeze Player. These parameters are:
- autoplay=1 so the video starts playback automatically
- mute=1 because often autoplay is restricted until mute is enabled
- loop=1 so the video loops back to the beginning after it finishes playback
- autopause=0 to eliminate an additional pausing at the beginning or end of a video
- texttrack=en to add Closed Captions
Note: The above parameters are recommended for best playback on the Breeze Player. Vimeo provides more in-depth information about supported URL parameters: Player Parameters Overview.
Adding these parameters results in a URL similar to the following:
This modified URL is entered in the Webpage widget in a Breeze playlist. Be sure to enable the Live Webpage checkbox for the Webpage widget!
An additional parameter can be added to the URL to enable close captioning: ?texttrack=en.
While it might be tempting to remove the mute=1 parameter, multiple Vimeo audio signals often produce undesirable results on the Breeze Player. Unless one Vimeo video will be the only content assigned to a Breeze Player, it is recommended to mute all Vimeo videos.
Working with Modified Vimeo URLs
It is generally easer to copy the above URL and simply switch out the Vimeo Video ID, rather than to copy the embed code and edit the URL. The Vimeo Video ID is the numerical string following the backslash (/) character in many of the various forms of a Vimeo URL.
A Vimeo video with a URL of https://vimeo.com/141728706 has a Video ID of 141728706. Simply substitute the new Video ID for the previous one and the URL is ready to be entered in the Webpage widget:
Vimeo videos have a range of privacy settings and it is not possible to embed the video on another website, or the Breeze Player, when the video's privacy is set to Private. Furthermore, the embed code has options to restrict where your video can be embedded that can affect playback on the Breeze Player as well.
